  1. hi all!

Can someone perhaps help as to why this keeps happening with large files (+20gb). I've tried it with streams that are only 30ish mins long and it works fine.

    CODE:
    youtube-dl https://www.twitch.tv/videos/402510440
[twitch:vod] 402510440: Downloading vod info JSON
[twitch:vod] 402510440: Downloading vod access token
    [twitch:vod] 402510440: Downloading m3u8 information
[download] Eugene - Prune Gang - NoPixel-v402510440.mp4 has already been downloaded
    [download] 100% of 29.59GiB
[ffmpeg] Fixing malformed AAC bitstream in "Eugene - Prune Gang - NoPixel-v402510440.mp4"
    ERROR: Conversion failed!

searched relentlessly for an answer and can't find one. I've tried updating ffmpeg and Youtube-dl which didn't work. However, it did manage to work yesterday randomly for a file that was 32gb.

    Thanks

Have you tried deleting the prior (damaged?) download and downloading again? Or try different versions:

    Code:
    C:\>youtube-dl -F https://www.twitch.tv/videos/402510440
[twitch:vod] 402510440: Downloading vod info JSON

Have you examined the temp file(s)?
(youtube-dl saves them if the download is not complete, or even after download if the -k parameter is passed to youtube-dl on the command line)

How many temp files are present? Check if the temp file(s) have audio and video together, or as separate files.

Try to process them directly with ffmpeg. If the audio is a separate file, try to process just that file with ffmpeg to fix the malformed AAC bitstream.

If the temp files have audio and video as separate files, and you are able to use ffmpeg to fix the malformed AAC bitstream, then try to mux them with something other than ffmpeg, such as MKVToolNix.

If the temp file is just a single file with audio and video together, then try to play the temp file directly, or use ffmpeg to extract just the audio to a new mp4 to fix the malformed AAC bitstream.

  4. Deleted the prior file and redownloaded it with the same problem:

    youtube-dl -f 720p60-1 https://www.twitch.tv/videos/402510440
[twitch:vod] 402510440: Downloading vod info JSON

Looked at the temp file and its not accessible. Seems like ffmpeg gives up trying to fix it half way through? I'll take a look at MKToolNix. The size of the temp file fluctuates when the ffmpeg is trying to fix the AAC bitstream

  5. Found the fix, basically, I cleared loads of space on my harddrive. The temp file size was moving up and down when the ffmpeg was trying to fix it so I thought it could be because I was running out of space which would also explain the smaller files working perfectly. So I guess when I download a file say 15gb I actually need 30gb just so the ffmpeg would work. The file downloaded still stays at 15gb when it's finished.

thanks for the help anyway guys!

  6. You might need at least three times the space, with the temp files, the fix files, and the muxed output.
