I am in the USA so everything is Region 1. I bought a region 2 DVD which I was able to play twice, now it's giving me this. I can now only play region 1.

  2. I don't rip DVDs as much as I used to, but back in the day DVD Decrypter could make a DVD region free. Once you've ripped the DVD and removed the region restriction, you can then burn it on a DVD-R or DVD+R if you plan to keep it, or if you only want to watch it and then go onto something else, you can burn it on a DVD re-writeable, which you can re-use later for something else. That's usually what I do with most DVDs.

Other people may be able to suggest more modern alternatives, although except for Disney discs, the old DVD Decrypter has always worked for me.

I'm not trying to rip the DVD I'm just trying to play it.

You may now have no choice but to copy it. It sounds like you've run out of region changes on your computer drive.

Perhaps VLC. I don't think it's bothered about drive/disk mismatch

  6. I think the region lock is done at the hardware level, before VLC touches it. The solution of ripping it to a DVD re-writeable is pretty much the only thing that will work, since you risk permanently bricking your DVD Player if you attempt to change regions more than once or twice.

Most drives don't care about region codes, only the player software. VLC works fine with those drives -- it will play any region. But some drives do check the region code themselves and refuse to read discs with the wrong code.

It sounds like the OP went through his five allowed region changes and is now stuck at region 1. Luckily he didn't get stuck at region 2!

Yeah, that was quite common twenty years ago when DVD players first came out and people would switch regions to play DVDs they got through mail order from other countries, only to find that after a few changes, they couldn't go back to their own country's region.

What about DVDFabPasskey ?. Practically free for dvds after the trial expires. Whether it works for Nero I know not.
