VirtualDub won't save editing with Huffyuv

Hi... I have just transfered a Hi8 to PC using Huffyuv as usual, and now when I open the AVI file in VDub and delete parts I don't need, upon using the Direct Stream Copy to save it (45 GB file), I get the following message, never seen it before:

Got it myself, had to change the open as type in the drop down menu to audio/video intreleave.

Isn't 'direct copy' idea is to keep source codec unchanged? Set conversion and it should be fine.
