Interlacing on video playback.

Hi All,

Not really sure how to define what is happening, so makes googling difficult.

We record a lot of TV, and watch it later. We also watch a lot of TV live, using Windows Media Centre.

When watching live, this effect is very minimal.

I've tried PotPlayer and MCE-BE, the latter doing a slightly better job.

So when there's a fast panning shot, or fast action, such as a cricket ball smashed for a four in the BBL (Hi to all the Aussies!), there seems to be an interlacing type effect, where there are actually 2 balls displayed, and it is very noticeable.

Now ... a two things changed at the same time, so not sure what may be causing this:

1) Upgraded from a 46" FHD TV to a 65" UHD TV
2) Decided to upgrade to a 4K@60Hz capable video card (RX550) from a quite old nVidia unit, even though we still run the HTPC at FHD.

Just wondering if this could be the video card, or just a setting in the playback software?

The TV tells me it's running in 1080p mode.

Any help or advice appreciated.

There can be several causes, just guessing:
- Your footage is interlaced and you watch it on a progressive monitor/TV without deinterlacing or bobbing
- Your footage is interlaced and your (poor) deinterlacer blends the fields
- The clip is poorly framerate converted at some point (e.g. PAL to NTSC)

Upload a sample so you might get better advice.

Try forcing PotPlayer to deinterlace to see if the picture improves. Preferences -> Video -> Deinterlacing.
