  1. I went out and got "ACD Video Studio 3". File mpg don't work. I get an error message "Cannot load one or more media files because of unsupported file type or missing codec" Does this mean I need a file converter? But it will convert .wmv to mp4 which works on my TV but the mp4 files I already have the sound don't work. I don't understand that?

Never heard of ACD Video Studio 3. Did you write that correctly ?

mp4 is a container format so it can include a variety of different video or audio codecs. Check you tv manual which will tell you what it will accept.

  3. I have 5 different files I want to work with so would it be to my advantage to buy a file converter?

No. First establish what the tv supports and then use avidemux (which is free) to convert
