  1. Hi guys,
I am a newbie and I am trying DVD ripping for the first time. All the steps worked fine untill I hit this last and final bump.
I have a WinXP and installed ASPI for XP (ver 4.6) on my machine. When I start the VCDEasy, i believe it checks whether there is a ASPI layer and gives out a small message on the bottom status bar.
But for me I get a status message as "ASPI seems valid : No ". This makes the drop down tools option in CDRDAO to be disabled. Also "eject, load, lock, unlock, rotate are all disabled". I do not know how to proceed. Can anyone please help me out.

Should I go ahead for ASPI ver 4.7 and try ?

    Thanx in advance
    vk

    Hi,
I put a 'copy'|'paste' of the help I wrote of my aplication "VCDwizard" (get it at http://www.labdv.com/vcdwizard/) in which I described how to get ASPI installed at w2k and wXP.
The version of ASPI default installed in windows, even that one that's downloadeble at Adaptec.com (designed for XP, which actually is part 4.60 and part 4.70) isn't good.

Tip : Installing ASPI onto Windows2000
I don't know who wrote this tool, but there exists a utility that you can search for at the Net that is suitable for Windows2000 (and possible also for XP) :
    aspiw2k.exe
In Windows2000/XP, close all running programs (if necessary, reboot) and run this application. It's actually a ZIP-file that will install 4 files (maybe even change something in the registry, I'm not sure). Then reboot.
Now you've got to install ASPI32.exe for NT4 (freely downloadable at Adaptec's site) - even if Adaptec tells you not to use it in W2k, just use it - be sure to take version 4.60. I've tested it here at my system, with even a much older version (from 1998 !) and it works great. When ASPI32 has been run, reboot again. If you launch ASPICHK.exe, it should tell you all is fine.

This tip might work at Windows XP too, but I didn't test it yet so you've got to figure it out yourself.

  4. You need Compel version of Force ASPI. I have it installed and it works with not proble here. The 4.7 windows XP ASPI layer is missing a couple of DLL`s that stop most older software working so it is not recommended. The Compel version installs version 4.6.1021.

  5. Adaptec changed its mind ong ago. Go to www.adaptec.com and you can dowmload their ASPI software win xp version - makes TSCV (and VCD easy as it uses cdrdao also) work fine.
