  1. Am looking for a video editor that can handle xvid codecs or mkv on mac

Please mention the best that available on the platform

P.s: don’t want converters cuz no time to convert thousands of files

  2. Latest Premiere Pro can handle xvid or divx (may require .avi extension.)
As for mkv -- depends what's in it.

Premiere Pro is a Windows program. The OP apparently has a Mac OSX PC.

You could try AVIDemux, it's a freeware simple editor that can handle Xvid or MKV container files.

Or look here for other Mac programs: https://www.videohelp.com/software/sections/macos-video-tools

  4. Premiere Pro is cross platform. Should be fine.

(BTW, thank you redwudz for your excellent moderating here. It stuns me to point out an error.)

But would the OP want such an 'expensive' solution ?

And xVID is so 'old' now as to make it 'museum' territory :0

I agree. But Op did say, "Please mention the best that available on the platform"
And Premiere has gotten really good in recent years.

Sorry, I was just going by the link to PP CC in our software page that didn't mention the Mac OS compatibility.

Premiere was released on Mac since CS3 in 2007.

    Where've you been?

However, that said, I'm not sure Premiere on Mac can understand the XviD codec, as it's very Windows-centric.

    How about
    - FFmpeg (for mac)?
    - Shotcut (multiplatform) as editor? It is based on FFmpeg.
