Hi. I recently bought a Panasonic Ag1970p to digitize VHS tapes, and the main problem I have is that the text and right edge are jagged and wavy, even though I have the TBC on. Is there any way to fix this, either by changing the settings or digitally, or should I send the machine back? Thanks

For better analysis, It's best if you post a short sample of the actual capture

  4. Well, those are severe horizontal time base errors. Do all tapes do that? Or just this one?

  6. Assuming you know your capture device is ok (it captures other source properly), I'd say the deck is probably bad. There appears to be some sawtooth noise in the horizontal sync function.

Have you tried connecting the deck to a TV? Do you see the same problem there?

All tapes have timing issues, hence the need for a quality VCR.

Either the deck has issues -- Where did you get it?
Or the capture card has issues -- What card?

I got the VCR off eBay, but the seller did give me a yearlong warranty for a bit extra

I've attached a recording of the tape with my older player

Unrelated to your timing issues, you used RGB with the LAGS codec but I think you did YUY2 with HuffYUV. So just be sure to double check before capturing that you have LAGS set to YUY2.

Is there a way to correct the deck, or should I return it and try to find a new one?
