  1. First time using this program. I downloaded TMPGEnc beta 12i and VFAPI plug-in and unzipped/ran install.bat according to instructions. When I added a video source (DV-AVI) I get some God-awfull error and my machine locks up. I deleted the folder and unzipped again-same issue.

The AVI is a file I exported out of Premiere. Is this a problem with the AVI or with this beta version or another issue I am missing?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Premiere-exported-avi's have problems opening in TMPGEnc.

Change the AVI priority (to something higher) in the environmental settings and that should fix it.

  3. Ok, changed the AVI priority around (higher) and it still crashes as soon as I try to load the AVI.

If I'm screwed, what is the next best answer to converting my AVI's to VCD, SVCD, DVD, ect.?

  4. use Panasonic, it's much more stable than TMPGEnc and less blocky since it makes a smoother image. But it does take a lot longer to encode, but it does do DivX really well

  5. What is the VFAPI plugin for, anyway? What does it do?

you could also try loading the avi into virtualdub, then frameserving to tmpgenc.

  9. oh. thanks.

    And one more question:

Can I use a DV-codec-compressed MPG file as the input file in TMPGEnc or does it have to be uncompressed AVI? Cuz if it has to be uncompressed AVI, then ouch, I need a bigger HD.

    Two questions actually...:

What is the difference between DV-type 1 compression and DV-type 2? What should I use?
