Hi there, I'm very much a noob when it comes to this so bear with me please.

I have been converting some old tapes from an early 2000s Digital 8 camcorder. They are a DV file type that just show up in Windows as "file" (they play in VLC though). I plan to use VirtualDub to merge all these clips into one video, preferably without compressing it. I have tried doing this in VirtualDub, but when I open the joined file, VLC only plays the audio and I get an error message saying VLC could not decode the format. This is with "direct stream copy" checked on VD.

I don't really see why this is happening? Any help/ideas?

  2. Did you install a DV codec? If not, try Cedocida.

No I didn't. Thanks, I'll try that. Just have to find a way to install it because Windows refuses to cooperate (no driver signature).
