    When encoding from anamorphic ntsc dvd originally at 720x480 shouldn't non-anamorphic video result be 852 by 480, or something similar ?

    There doesn't seem to be a way to do this in handbrake as it keeps the width at 720 unless I'm missing something.

    give vidcoder a try. it's a front-end gui for handbrake that makes adjustments easier to figure out.

    In Handbrake select Presets -> Reset Built-In Presets. Set Anamorphic to None You'll then be able to enlarge the frame to 852.x480
