video editor problems

I have the same problem with every video editor I download and try. I get stuck at the same place every time. I have watched tutorials so many times. How do I select the videos or pictures that I want in my project. All my pics are on google potos. Every tutorial that I have looked at never explains how to do this. I guess everyone in the tutorials thinks that no one has a problem on how to get the pics or videos and put into the editor. I need the first steps. Not starting on step 4 or 5. I need the first step to do and so one. I need a tutorial that starts from the very beginning. It can go back as far as turning your computer on. I know how to turn the computer on. I need someone to assume I know nothing. If I can figure out or if someone could help me, I can take it from there. I just need to start at the minimum basic step and then so on. Thank you.

i don`t know what editor you use but mostly

1. Drag and drop your file to the editor
2. File > Import

That's also how i read (t)his "complaint" so i guess the files should be first transfered to the local hard drive, and should not be opened as project files,
but imported as new "assets" or "add new media" or maybe software with an "wizard" should be a better help.(no pun intended)
