    Hello.

If I want to take a continuous video of very long time that is at least 720p resolution. It will be of course even better if 1080p. But I don't think I need 4k

Very long time means starting from at least 100 hours to possibly 500 hours of time.

I think a smartphone won't work in that way. It will be either heated up so much

    or not enough storage.

    What do you recommend?

What is probably the size of the video if it's 100 hours and if it's 500 hours in 720p?

What is the recommended equipment to use to take these long videos?

I am not a professional and I hope the equipment is a good deal.

    Thanks for all advice.

    SORRY forgot to note.

I may want to take kinds of videos under very dark environment, and I hope there is little light to disturb the environment. While watching from the video, I'll be able to watch my target clearly. Do I need any special equipment? Infrared something?

  2. Sounds like you need a high quality security camera that records to a HDD. Not sure what the quality is like of modern security cameras, I guess you get what you pay for. Can the camera your looking for be fixed? Or does it have to be mobile?

I take video of a particular area only, so it does'nt' have to be mobile. But not fixed permanently, I can take it away somewhere else later.

It depends on how much the video is compressed, the frame rate, and the frame size, how much motion there is,etc. For full motion video you're probably looking at anywhere from maybe 50 GB (720p, highly compressed) to 1.1 TB (uncompressed 1080p30 RGB).

  6. Yes, you want to get a security camera, both for the length of recording as well as being able to record under dark conditions. These cameras can record for hundreds of hours if you get enough storage. They can record day and night (they use an invisible infrared light to illuminate the area at night). They can be set to only record when motion is sensed. If you use this feature, and the area you are recording has very little motion most of the time, you can actually record months and months without every having to empty the memory card or hard drive.

I have attached a long "white paper" I wrote about security cameras for our homeowners association a year ago. You may find it useful.
