  1. Hi I have a SonyPC 490TV with WinMe Installed.

I made it dual boot - with Windows 2000 .

My prbolem is that when I'm authoring a DVD in Win2000 using DVD It Pro - it says no decoder for mpeg 2 found. Spruce says can't import images.

I don't have problems with this in WinMe. I called Sony and they told me that the decoder is only recognizable in WinMe. They said I could install my System Recovery disc and overwrite the Win2000  that would be 60 gbs down the drain of movie files. Extract the software decoder and then re-install Win2000.

Or am I better off buying a MPEG 2 Decoder Card that will let me finish my DVD Projects in Windows 2000. Or find a software decoder that can help finish products. Any suggestion would be appreciated :)

    Thanks in Advance

Funny, because I use WIN2000P and have used both DVDit-PE and Spruceup with no problems (well, none of this sort, anyway). Do you have a DVD player on your machine? Will Windows Media Player play your .MPGs? Oh, yeah, I remember now... both applications seemed to be very "extention" needy. For example, what are your MPEGs called. I remember that I had to rename them *.MPG or *.M2V before I could bring in clips.

  3. The Sony 490PCTV - comes with Pioneer A03 drive inside .

I also have an external A03 also.

I do have PowerDVD 4.0 installed - canwatch SVCDs on that and DVD

Windows Media Player only plays the VCDs - it will play the audio of the SVCDs , but not the picture

Ie - Last night I convereted 2 disc svcd image into one mpg file. Using Tmpegnc.

So I was trying to import the Tmpegnc files --- If I remember correctly, the file extensions were *.MPG or *.M2V (not home right now to verify)

Still don't know why DVDit ask me for a decoder

PowerDVD or your video card should have installed all the necessary codecs to your system. I have to look tonight at what I have, but WMP should play.

I think that there is a DirectShow driver missing. Try uninstalling, then reinstalling PowerDVD again, and see if this fixes your problem (if it plays a DVD, the proper codecs are there on your system).
