Hi there...I have recorded snow over a family VHS tape, is there any way of getting it back? Any help would be much appreciated.

How heavy is the snow ?
A light fall may be removed but if it's a blizzard........ -
Was not intended to be disrespectful.
I was thinking in terms of warn video heads, tracking noise or 'sparklies'
But snow or no snow if the contents have been taped over then it's gone. Buried in the avalanche. -
Maybe, if you are willing to spend thousands of dollars at a forensics lab.
Now go and break off the record safe tabs on all your other family tapes!

Reading your post from a different perspective.
Do you really mean you recorded something OVER the existing video (which is impossible to recover) or do you mean the video is snowy/grainy (possibly due to dirty video heads), full of dropouts (which look like comets streaking across the video or 'sparklies' as DB83 stated) or is the "snow" only on the bottom 1/4" of the screen (which could be tracking or tape damage issues)?
Edit: I see DB83 already hit on these issues. Nige58, if you have the video captured, upload a small sample of the issue. If you don't have it captured, post a few pictures of the image you see onscreen.Last edited by lingyi; 13th Sep 2018 at 15:47.

Based on the rententivity/coercivity of the tape's medium, there MAY be some residual signal there. But only FBI-level industrial machines would be up to pulling anything off of there.
It's GONE!
