The funny thing is I actually watched the Wizard of Oz last night, they had it on TV for Christmas and the one thing all these years that I wish could be explored is what would have happened if Dorothy followed the red brick road? Where did that lead?

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

Just saw this . . . how sweet. Probably the nicest thing he's ever said about me! I wonder if he's grown up at all over the past few years? Actually, I REALLY couldn't care less.
A.I. is here now, and soon all you BLEEPs will be happy to know that your Oceana "smart" TV (with added NewSpeak) is not only actively filtering out any naughty cuss words, but also anything deemed unsuitable by whichever regime is currently in charge of your bit of the planet. (For all you "delicate LITTLE flowers", SPOILER ALERT!!!) Soon "Old Yeller" WILL end his days on a nice farm upstate (Phoebe will be happy!), EVERYONE survives the end of "Rogue One" (including those "poked" by that prankster Darth Vader's tickle-sabre!), absolutely No One is dead
in "The Sixth Sense", Hans Gruber is really a die-hard base-jumper, the WW2 German I.C.E. agents don't shoot 50 re-captured escapees in "The Great Escape", Roy Batty actually becomes a relationship counsellor at the end of "Blade Runner" (his commercials always start with the line, "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...!") and films like "1984", "Animal Farm", "Equilibrium" and "V for Vendetta" etc. have ALL been placed on the "Unsuitable" list. Also, neither of the planes that dropped the two atomic bombs on Japan in 1945 was called "Enola Gay", Donald Trump DIDN'T lose the 2020 Presidential election, Boris Johnson DIDN'T lie to the British public about all the parties going on in No. 10 whilst the rest of the country was in Covid Lockdown, and both JarJar Abrams and Rian (spelt wrong!) Johnson (SUCH an apt surname eh, Boris? Eh, "tiny" Mike?) are both wonderful writers AND directors!
I know I've gone a bit O.T.T. here, but I do believe that this util is some way down this particular slippery slope. I would still argue that films and TV shows should be judged on what they ACTUALLY are, not what some idiot/well-meaning idiot *THINKS* they should be. Plus, if you're watching a film, you're engaged with it, and invested in the characters, and there's a particularly gripping bit of dialogue going on . . . and all of a sudden there's a blank bit! (I assume that's what this app does?) Straight away you're taken out of the moment. "Was that a glitch?", "Was it the language 'Killjoy'?", "Hmm. I wonder what word it took out? Was it the word I think it was . . . or was it a worse one? Or maybe a lesser one?" And by then, you realise that you've missed at least half a page of the script. So, do you re-wind, or just plough on, and hope that you didn't miss anything important? ("No, Luke. I am your greengrocer!", "I see Really Sleepy people!", "Call that a knife? That's a BLEEPing knife, Cobber! Look at it! Mine's WAY bigger than your's, you pathetic BLEEPing little BLEEP!" It's been a while since I watched some of these movies!
) Also, it's not only the language used by a character that's important for the audience. It's also the speed, the rhythm, the cadences, and how smoothly it flows. It all helps to inform the audience about that particular character, and how they're feeling at any given moment in the film. Plus, if you used this on a film like "Beverley Hills Cop" where probably every 3rd or 4th word out of Eddie Murphy's character's mouth is a certain 4-letter word, beginning with "F" and ending in "K", I would imagine that anyone watching that with you would either think that there was something wrong with your broadband, or that it was time to dig out that cleaning disc for your DVD/Blu-ray player!
If a TV show or a film like, say, "Smokey and the Bandit" is deemed not to be suitable to broadcast unedited at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon . . . then don't broadcast it at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon! (Lookin' at you, ITV!) Likewise, if you don't think a film/TV show is suitable for your little JonJon or little Pandora then don't show it to them! Either wait until you deem they are old enough, or let them discover it for themselves when they're ready. It's not as if there aren't any alternatives to watch, is it . . . ?"Well, my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle." - Captain Malcolm Reynolds
