I used to read the forums, and how you helped each other.
It has been also very helpful for my own issues.

I have a issue I cannot seem to work out.

Please can you help me out, please. Thank you in advance.

THE ISSUE:
DVB HD .TS file is edited in Avidemux.
Exported as MPEG TS Muxer (ff).
Loss of voices only, but surround sound and video remain perfect.

So I edited a video file in Avidemux:
: HD 1080 PAL DVB .TS

Audio Output COPY

> Tried:

and

Watching the video in Kodi the:
: Voices are lost
"BUT"
: the music remains
: the surround sound remains (explosions, gun fire etc)


Kodi is newly installed, and has been removed and reinstalled:
: the issue of the "voices are lost" remains, and all video and surround sound are perfect.

We edited some more DVB HD . TS files.

1 out of 4 was the issue. That recording was from BBC HD DVB " Freeview ".
3 out of 4 were perfect, and not recorded from any BBC HD channel.

We will update you on what happens. Hopefully the other HD channels will be perfect too.

May we ask:
: Why do you think the recording from the BBC HD channel, when edited, looses the voices?

All 4 recording are movies, e.g " Pirates of The Caribbean" , etc.
The correctly working, 3 of 4 Avidemux edited recordings say in Kodi:

Just tried the bad recording in VLC, video is smooth, no audio.
Grand total of one audio track.

The 1 of 4 bad recording, that was edited in Avidemux:

: Out Put Format MKV <--- MKV (Is correct) We tried .TS and that did not work at all in any player.

Your problematic source is stereo. I suspect one of the audio channels is inverted and when you play it the stereo track is being downmixed to mono. That causes sounds in the middle to cancel out (dialog is usually in the middle). Try these two tracks. OutOfPhase.m4a is a stereo track where one channel is inverted. When played as stereo it sounds very diffuse but you can hear the music and the voice. MixToMono.aac is what happens when that stereo track is mixed to mono. The voice and other sounds in the middle disappear.

Since AviDemux is in "copy" mode it can't cause that problem. I would look at Kodi's (and the audio device's) audio settings and make sure it's not downmixing to mono. Other processing like Dolby Pro Logic decoding can have a similar effect if your speakers are set up incorrectly (for example Dolby Pro Logic decoding would route the out of phase audio to the rear channels -- if you have no rear speakers that audio will not be heard). So check your audio system settings and speaker setup.

Or you can fix the audio file in an editor, inverting one channel, then saving.

Audacity is free. If you add the ffmpeg plugin it can load the audio directly from your A/V file. After fixing the audio you export as the type you want (mp3, aac, ac3, etc.) then you have to use some other program to mux the new audio and original video together.

As a quick test, open your audio source and select Tracks -> Stereo Track To Mono. Play the audio. If the voice is gone you have verified problem is an inverted track. If you still hear the voice this is not your problem. Undo the downmix (Undo -> Stereo to Mono, or Ctrl+z) to get back to where you were. Skip to step 2 below.

General procedure:

1) Import your audio by drag/drop or via File -> Import -> Audio.
2) Using the little black pulldown arrow near the top left of the audio track select Splint Stereo Track.
3) Select one of the resulting tracks and select Effect -> Invert (make sure you select only one, not both).
4) Use the little pulldown again and select Make Stereo Track.
5) Finally File -> Export -> Audio... to create a new audio file.

If I understand correctly, this is after downmixing to mono. It indicates the BBC news and talk show are normal, in phase, audio. And the movie is out of phase. If you plan to keep it all you want to invert one channel, but only for the movie portion. So split the stereo tracks, mark just the movie portion of one channel and invert it. Join back to stereo and export the audio in the format you need it.
