Simplest and quickest free video downloader ?

Can anyone recommend a simple straightforward free video downloader that doesn't take ages to work out as not done it before....?

I used it for many years and worked like a charm:

Backup first your profile folder of firefox to be safe.
Do only install the browser addon that I linked above, the file should be clean and easy to uninstall -> create new profile in firefox.
Do not download the exe file of their website, I never installed it, so I cannot say anything about it like "crapware" in installer.

I am a friend of clean, lightweight and small software, so the browser addon is fine

Unfortunately while I do have Firefox it doesn't work on this link. Any other suggestions as whilst I'm living in the UK at the moment I'm based in Sweden....? (I know about vpn)

I used youtube-dl. It is anything but not easy to use for average users who don't know how to use cmd.exe

If you don't have VPN then it would seem that when you downloaded the video you somehow bypassed the "Cannot be viewed outside Sweden" restriction, in which case I could also download the video directly as well which I still can't at the moment ?

I didn't used any VPN or proxy. But I must admit, it looks strange: In firefox I couldn't watch it, at least I couldn't read the message
I downloaded it without any error.
If you are interested in the file, I can send it to you somehow if it is allowed.
Maybe a moderator know if it is allowed?

If you're referring to - http://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/supportedsites.html - that would be wonderful as I've been trying to download the whole series for a week or more now. Only thing is I'm no techie at all so if ok with the mods would it be a simple download automatically allowing access.... ?

If you scroll to below the main picture of the woman and parrot you'll see there are 6 episodes (avsnitts) overall about the former Queens of Sweden, so if you could get a copy of each that'd be really great thank you !

However it does leave a very interesting question unanswered as to why your .dl works at all, so I'd be very interested to install it as well if that's all that's needed as it opens up so many more old Swedish films to view later on as it's a great way to keep in touch.

You don't seem to understand youtube-dl is the program he used to download the video. It's a command line program, run from a command prompt. It can bypass geo restrictions with some (not all) sites. Since that particular site is supported all you need to do is put the URL of the web page on the command line after youtube-dl. So the command line to download that particular video is simply:

youtube-dl https://www.oppetarkiv.se/video/1336547/drottning-av-sverige-avsnitt-1-av-6

I just downloaded that episode (I'm in the USA) even though the geo restrictions stop it from playing in a browser.

The other five episodes follow a simple pattern:

By default youtube-dl downloads the "best" version it finds, usually the highest resolution video and highest bitrate audio. There are options that let you download other versions. See the instructions that come with it.

There are GUI front ends for youtube-dl. You may find them easier to use. Or follow the instructions on this page:

Copy the URL to the clipboard then double click on the _cb2ytdl.bat.

Don't rely on just one streaming downloader. Those streaming sites don't like you downloading their streams so they change the protocols often, making the program useless until it gets updated again. Install several.

Thanks for the tip but unfortunately still none the wiser, so I'm now wondering probably incorrectly if using a local public wifi source might be able to download all 6 episodes instead....?

The original reason for it all is the awful download speeds I always get from about 9am till midnight usually averaging 5/10 kbs, whereas in the small hours it's usually 180 or so, so there's only one option left and that's download them then.

Afte a lot of searching finally recorded the first episode at 5am this morning using of all things Windows Games - Windows logo key + G with no problems whatsoever ! No watermarks, 5 minutes limit or any other "Free" tied commercial offerings at all, so I would think this just has to be the easiest way of video recording of all most of all for non techie people like myself.

1 down and 5 to go....

If still required - I use Free Download Manager. Not sure if it supports YouTube (it should I guess), try to check it out, it's easy to use.

If you watch youtube on IE, then can try this fast and simple way.
Right click on the video that you are watching and this menu with pop up.

This menu should pop up.
