  1. Having successfully converted 100s of DVDs into MP4s using Handbrake I am perplexed as to why I am having trouble with one particular movie.

For some reason there is no audio during playback of the resulting .mp4 file however when I drag the VIDEO_TS folder of the source into VLC Player it plays with no issue so I know that the audio exists in the source.

I tried the latest Handbrake version and it just crashed during conversion, don't know what that's all about. The version I use is 0.10.0.6534 64-Bit.

Any suggestions for a workaround -or- an alternative tool that does what Handbrake does (for free) would be appreciated.

How many years is that old? Latest version is 1.1.1 (+the nightly test versions).
If it still fails and no one else reported it already you can report the issue to the developers.

    Source video not decrypted properly?
Both vidcoder and handbrake create a runlog.
    Any clue there?

I tried it with two versions of DVDFab. Same result.

Here is the encode log when running Handbrake:

But I don't want to make MKV files.

Is there any free alternative to DVDFab that does the same thing? This is the first time I've had DVDFab fail on me.

Mkv is just a container, you can quickly convert it to mp4 without re-encoding.You won't find any other decrypter.

  14. When I insert the DVD, VidCoder tells me: "An Error Occurred While Scanning "

If it's a commercial disc then it's most likely the file protection that's causing the error.

I thought VidCoder removed that just like DVDFab does.

no. handbrake and vidcoder are just plain encoders. the video has to be decrypted before using them.

  18. Ok I know I am more than a day late on responding to this thread and a dollar short.... but I just had a few ideas....

So your ripped using Handbrake and have no audio?

First I would ensure the disk is good. Try playing back the DVD on a computer using VLC. If you have no audio try right clicking in the screen go to Audio > Audio Track > and try a different Audio Track.

If you find an audio Track that plays ensure that track is included in when you rip the disk. Better yet if you can figure out how to make Handbrake make it the primary audio track....

johns0 Suggested using MakeMKV, to which njitgrad said he didn't want to MKV files. Well that is all fine and well but it might be the right step to a solution. Use MakeMKV, to create the MKV files test them, if they work use Handbrake to convert the files to Mp4.

    Hope that helps someone....
