When Capturing and Saving in VideoStudio 5 the quality is great. I D/L VideoStudio 6 and when I make a MPEG2 file, the image looks like the imgage gets horizonal streeks in it. The image looks broken up, expecially with fast moving video. This happens only in VS6 when capturing or saving in MPEG file format. AVI seems to look OK in VS6. The quality in VS5 for MPEG works great...

My procss is the same with VS5 and VS6...

Capture DVD NTSC 720x480 29.97fps (or same with AVI)
    - then save as custom file type
    MPEG-2 720x480 29.97fps constant 4000 bit rate

Mavrick, what you're seeing is the result of VideoStudio 6 capturing both fields which would produce a much sharper video if you were making a SVCD with the TV being your target playback device.

If the video is to be played back on a computer you definitely don't want an interlaced capture as is will look horrible. The link below does a good job of explaining frames and fields.

    Thanks!

I'll try and play with the Field order and Frames...

Do you (or anyone) know the Correct settings for VideoStudio 6 and a ATI All-in-Wonder RADEON 8500DV?

    Thanks for the help...

Mavrick, I'm not sure what you mean by "correct" settings. I can tell you what I do and I'm happy with the results.

I have ATI All-in-Wonder 128 Pro. I capture 352 x 480 uncompressed AVI, in VideoStudio 6, then do whatever editing I want and usually then encode the finished video, MPEG-1 352 x 240, 2300 kbps. If I'm making an XVCD I just burn directly from VideoStudio 6.

If I have mulitple videos that I'm putting on a CD, I'll burn with Nero.

The only time I bother with SVCD is when I'm making something for my son because his DVD player will not play anything XVCD but will play compliant SVCD just fine and with great quality.

    Hope this helps.
