    Hi Guys,

I'm trying to convert old and big H264 files to H265, using VirtualDub2 and x265vfw.
I have tried almost every configuration's combination that i could think of,
but unfortuanetly every time i get an output file that is sound only, black screen.

    What am i doing wrong?
    Appreciate your help,

    Thanks

Check with MediaInfo if your result contains any video stream at all, and which format. If a HEVC video stream is included, then maybe your player can't decode it? And if it has a suspiciously low bitrate, then maybe it accidentally encoded all blackness, so try different players too (e.g. VLC), or reading it back into VirtualDub2 or into an AviSynth script (with FFMS2 or L-SMASH Works as decoder plugins).

Apart from that, VirtualDub2 already supports HEVC output into MP4 or MKV with its own "FFMPEG / x265" compressor; it just has only few options. And if you only want to convert without much editing, many other tools could be used too. Just to test any alternative to x265vfw.

  3. Did you run only the first pass of a 2-pass encode?

My PC has KLite Codec pack installed, should know how to decode it?

During the first pass of a multipass encoding the codec is only examining the video (creating a stats file, and outputting black frames). You need to run a second pass to actually encode (the codec usese the information in the stats file to allocate bitrate).

So in the next pass should i choose "Multipass - Nth pass", on the original file?
now it's working, but am i doing it correctly?

    Thanks

    Yes, that's the intended usage.
