Hello, I just created an account to ask this question.

I've had some MKV files in the past where playing them in VLC showed a different title than the file name. I fixed this using MKVToolNix's header editor by deleting the "Title" header. After that it showed just the file name in VLC like I want.

However, I now have a slightly different problem that I can't figure out. Instead of showing just a wrong title, it's also showing additional information. When I open up the "Media Information" in VLC, and it shows a title, artist, album, date, and track number. However, when I open this file in MKVToolNix's header editor, the "Title" header element doesn't exist and I don't see the other information anyway. I also tried using mkvpropedit, but from the docs I don't see how I would delete this data.

Any tips on how to delete that information?

    Thanks!

  2. To remove all tags:
    mkvpropedit "input.mkv" --tags all:

Notice that tracks can also have names. Those can be removed via the Header editor.
