  1. So far this has been a pain in the ...

Between XP and Vista the support for DV capture was dropped and everything I've found over the internet is useless so far, from what I've discover is that you need to install the legacy IEEE1394 OHCI drivers from Microsoft.

There is no need to install this, extract with:
    Code:
    msiexec /a C:\full_path_to_1394_OHCI_LegacyDriver.msi /qb TARGETDIR=C:\full_path_to_1394_extract_dir
Install with the right button or by updating the IEEE1394 driver and make sure it has a "(Legacy)" after the update. This will enable "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR", but that's it. Virtualdub, WinDV or any capture software are able to connect to your DV camera or device.

Investigating further I did try to create a custom filter with GraphEdit, to my surprise I can't add the "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR" because it complains about "permission denied", the error happens even if I run or log in as a Administrator.

To me looks like the DirectShow filters are all mess up or there is something else missing, I don't use any codec pack to avoid things like this.

Does any one knows how to fix this?
    Thank you.

    PS: I've a Texas Instruments TSB12LV26 IEEE-1394 board.

  5. Yeah, to me I would keep up with 7, but the software I need to do work doesn't run on 7 anymore. The directshow filters in 10 is all mess up, some filters are there doing nothing and without access.

But never mind, Linux is doing a great job capturing my dvcam much better than any software on Windows, dvgrab captures the timelog and all the information about the time of recording, so is possible to see the date and hour it was recorded, what camera setting was used, etc.

    Much better than Windows!

    Code:

For Mac it uses a Quicktime container but is the exact DV content.

Why? I have had no problems capturing DV with scenalyzer on Windows 10, what are the problems you are referring to?

I stumbled upon this while searching for something else, maybe somebody here has an answer for me?

Some of my miniDV cassettes does not contain datecode, only timecode. and the timecode resets around 10-20 times per cassette, when new scene was created with a small gap. I´ve checked this with DVdate, and camera shows the same while playing, but all the programs I´ve tried does not manage to split the files when this reset of timecode occurs. It always gets captures as one big file.

Already tried that, it doesn't work over here. The issue is related with the DirectShow filters as informed in the 1st post, is possible to look in to it and find a solution but I have no time right now.

  10. Strange, my firewire card worked like plug and play in windows 10, no problems at all.
WinDV is buggish, but not scenalyzer.

  11. i installed dv codec, the https://www.videohelp.com/software/Canopus-DV-Codec
maybe thats why, havent even tested without it installed.
May 19,1999, but works flawless in virtualdub 32bit, so guess it works with scenalyzer also, or it uses builtin codec probably.

Do you know if DVgrabber splits cassettes that does not contain datestamp? I.e the cassettes that always get the ending 0001 instead of date and time.
You can almost always see the timecode on these cassettes getting resetted, but I do not understand how you auto split these.
Have spent hours searching for ffmpeg commands. If I open these files in DVdate the timecode resets at long brakes on cassettes.

  12. Did tried this and other codecs, the issue is not related with codecs. It's related with "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR"directshow filter, without it the interface doesn't even show up to be used.

  13. Or this is just a stupid language mistake by me?
You´re talking about capturing to dv, not transferring from dv.
    Sorry.

  14. Without that DS filter, there's no back and forth communication.

  15. I can easily control everything from windows 10, no problem at all. Play/capture/ffw etc.
Maybe its just your firewire card that doesnt have support in Win10?
I´ve testet two different completely generic card, works great. Better than with previous os, got blue screen very often with Win 7, now its much more stable.
So I would argue that Win10 is better for firewire than Win7.
    Never dropped frames.

The 'Legacy IEEE1394 OHCI drivers did not work on my Windows 10.
After 3 nights efforts, I found the solution for my unit, Thesycon TI1394 driver.
This dirver can be get from,

    http://www.driverscape.com/download/t1394bus-ohci-ti

    Driver Version: 1.29.2.0
    Release Date: 2009-06-17
    File Size: 173.39K
    Supported OS: Windows 10 64 bit, Windows 8.1 64bit, Windows 7 64bit, Windows Vista 64bit, Windows XP 64bit

  17. Nah... Still doesn't work.
This driver is incompatible with my board.
    Quote Quote
  18. I took a time off to take a look at this issue, I know the issue is not the PCI board because it's working and I've use it to do hundreds of thousands captures/dv transfer over the past 13 years with it. I've formated my workstation to make sure that there is no software or codec that broke any DirectShow filter, got the last Windows 10 from Microsoft - 1803 17134.48.

Like before, there was permission errors with the "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR" DS Filter, without it, no capture device can be used or listed like the default "AVC Tape Recorder/Player" for DV capture. Change the IEEE1394 driver to Legacy, over "Devices" Instead of "Unknown Device" it changed to "IEC 61883 Device". Still no device are detected by any capture software like Virtualdub and even this scenalyzer.

Using "Regmon" and after a few hours, I discover this key while I was trying to build the filter with Graphedit:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectShow\P referred]

Checking this key permission, the owner of this key is a service named TrustedInstaller, it has a group icon but there isn't any "TrustedInstaller" group or user. In the list als has a unknown SID S-1-15-3-1024-1065365936-1281604716-3511738428-1654721687-432734479-3232135806-4053264122-3456934681.

Change the key permission giving the administrators and system groups full control. Soon after the change the listed devices changed from "IEC 61883 Device" to "AVC Tape Recorder/Player".

Looks like the only change needed is to give full controle to system, anyway, DV transfer and control are working again.

Here is a RAW sample from my VHS DVD combo, captured by Canopus ADVC-100 using video composite from a DVD recording. Sorry, I don't have anything better to capture. Maybe I can get something else later, is 4 AM now.

We should thank Microsoft for this.

    I like that graphic!

"TrustedInstaller" is an OS-related account that takes charge of a number of vital services and settings. Mostly for good, but it's a pain when you NEED to access something and it is in the way.
I have to take over permissions all the time from TI when I want to change the desktop icon of "This PC" to be specific to the machine (I change it to "%computername% computer") instead of generic.

    Good detective work.

Hi, this looks promising, I have 4 computers including an old XP machine that used to capture just fine, but none of them do now. I know the cable and the camera work, because a Ubuntu laptop recognises the camera and Kino can cpture, although it has a permission problem too.
My problem with your solution is in Windows 10, I dont have permission to change the permission. I run regedit as administrator, but when I right click on the key, select permissions and tick System Full control I get a dialog box saying that I dont have permission to change.... How did you get around that?

I stumbled accross a very easy fix.

I enabled the Administrator account and the camera was detected and worked flawlessly every time.

    Instructions here. https://www.technipages.com/windows-administrator-account-login-screen

I didnt even have to use the legacy driver like a lot of others suggest.
I am so happy after 3 days of frustration trying to get it to work.

I'm not 100% sure of the security ramifications of having the administrator account enabled, but it's a home computer dedicated to capturing and I'll probably leave it disconnected from the internet most of the time.

    thanks for your help.

It would seem I still have to have the 'legacy' 1394 driver installed to make it work, but at least it works with administrator enabled.

    DV.avs
    Code:
    video=LWLibavVideoSource("E:\DV.avi")
    audio=LWLibavAudioSource("E:\DV.avi")
    AudioDub(audio, video)

    # It depends on the codec used by DV source/capture
    #ReInterpolate411()

    ConvertToYV12(interlaced=true)
    Undot()

    # HQ DV / very slow deinterlacer
    QTGMC(Preset="Slower", EZDenoise=1, NoisePreset="Slow")
Render with a H.264 4:2:2 format, do a post in Davinci Resolve, export to a format you want.

  28. I have several tapes, I bought a Sony GV-D800 as a player. I can now capture with WIN10 via a new 1394 card. I have been out of this for a while. I have access to the Adobe suite. Could you detail your process a little more?
    Thanks

first capture the video. look at in your editor. it may or may not need massaging. premiere pro has plenty of fx plugins you can use to do any type of correction.
