  1. I have a G4 733 Mhz Powermac and I am just learning how to convert .mov so I can play them on my DVD player (its VCD compatable).

    I think I am finally getting success after lots of help and advice from messages posted on here (I'm doing my first VCD now actually).

    Just a quick question;
    I've split a film in two using Quicktime and have dropped the first one onto Toast. How long will each half take, it seems awfully slow ?

    Also, how do I put it on a blank CD when its finished encoding ?

    All help much appreciated !!!
    :-?

    About 5 hours or so depending on the quality you choose. To burn it use Toast. It can burn VCDs very easily. I've tried Neromax before, but it refused all mpegs I gave it.

    I've burned a couple VCDs using Toast's encoder, and if I recall correctly, the first step in making a VCD with Toast from a Quicktime file is that it re-encodes the .mov to be Toast-acceptible. Once the file is Toast-able, then it asks you for a blank CD to burn the video to VCD.

    Beware: Apparently Toast encodes the video (for NTSC) to 320x240, which is not the VCD's standard resolution of 352x240.

    Once you finish encoding the .mov file to a .mpeg then you can burn. I'm not at home now to check what screen size Toast uses, but I believe it is 352x240.
