But I noticed Jagabo's AviSynth code included cropping values.

Can anyone tell me how to measure & determine the exact cropping value required?
Do you guys use a specific program or command?
I don't think you're using rulers on your computer screens...
Here's a shameless plug for my CropResize script (follow the link for screenshots). It has a preview function. You enter any resizing (or specify the width and height as zero if you don't want to resize), followed by the cropping values. Preceding the CropResize() function with "p" enables the cropping preview. ie

    pCropResize(640, 480, 0, 16, -0, -108)

Hybrid has one too. I have an old version installed but the preview function can be found under the Crop/Resize tab, and hovering the cursor over the navigation bar at the bottom of the preview window shows a tooltip with instructions on how to adjust the cropping. Unless it's changed, the A, D, W & S keys increase the left, right, top & bottom cropping, and the same keys in combination with the shift key decrease it.
As I said, it might work differently now as I have an old version installed, but Hybrid does have a cropping preview. If you adjust the cropping Hybrid can automatically adjust any resizing so as not to distort the picture, although after you've set the cropping preview you can still adjust the width (or height) and hybrid will automatically adjust the height (or width) to match.
