  1. With the announcement of hardware DivX players coming out something this year or next year, how will people burn these files onto CDR so it will be compatible with them? Do you just burn the whole divx .avi file as a data cd without any encoding required or what?

Anybody know or is it just too early to tell?

  2. We'll just have to wait and see but honestly, it won't take off. VCD is the way to go.

  3. LEXTORITE, You are joking about the comment "it won't Take off "aren't you? I know that not everyone who uses this site download and convert divx movies to vcd but I would say that a good majority of us do, a lot of people do rip and then convert. Some divx people have built divx machines out of computers using Good tv out cards and love it. If a dvd player comes out with the ability to play divx file cdr's. I WILL BE THE FIRST ONE IN LINE TO BUY ONE! :D I mean really wouldn't you just like to a)download and burn (no converting) or b) rip a dvd into divx and then burn(no converting). You should also look under the comparison chart on this site a divx file is very close to dvd quality. EVen if the price of a dvd player that plays divx is more money I think a lot of people would buy it. However they might want to think about a name change-people might get confused with circuit city's flop. AFRODEZIAK- you are right!-at least that's what I've been told (the same thing you asked.) Hey that's just my two cents anyone else want to throw in their input.

  5. Kinneera, There is serious talk about a chip I think its by sigma? You probably right but NEVER SAY NEVER. Don't forget about the mp3 player! and besides I'm sure people everywhere know at least one person who knows how to make vcds. It's almost the same thing mp3=free music. avi. files converted to mpg=free movies. I mean the music industry is pissed about the mp3 but it is real easy to make a cdr copy of a music cd. vcds alittle harder and time consuming but definetly fun!

  6. I didn't say never...

But recordable-CD technology and DVD in general are excellent examples of just how long it can take...

  7. I'd have to say the first & maybe only hardware divx or MPEG4 player would be a hacked Xbox. Which you need to buy the little USB IR port and remote for it, to play DVD's. Now if the DVD software or MPEG2DEC.DLL is on the harddrive and loads it only when it detects the IR port, this could be very hard to pull off. But if it's located on the little IR port and loaded thru USB when detected then it could be just a matter of changing / reflashing the IR port so it loads a MEPG4 decoder. I'll have to look around some of the Xbox hacking site and see whats up.

  8. To tell you guys the truth, the Dreamcast can play DivX with a special player Dreamcast can also play MPEG-1 without breaking a sweat (I use a method to play them perfectly, I'll make a guide soon ) So, there is DivX playing hardware out there already ^_^. As for the Dreamcast DivX player, it can play DivX 3.11 - 5.0 at full speed (depends on resolution and bitrate). All you need to do is burn the player on one disc, shove into your Dreamcast, and then shove in your disc with the DivX movies. That's it .

  9. I can tell you I am one of those who converts DIVX to VCDs on a regular basis, and also has a good enough TV out on his computer (GeForce 3 card) to play them on a TV.

However, If there is a good player out there that plays DIVX, I would be the first to buy one provided it s not outrageously priced (let s say about the price of a mid range DVD player).

The problems for a DIVX player : different resolutions, different audio codecs to contend with...
