    so my tv has built in dvb-t hdtv free to air and when i recoard videos to my usb stick they play fine on the tv but when i play then on a pc using either MPC or VLC Player they don't load

    here is a small 5mb sample clip

    what could be causing this problem i have never had this problem recording dvb-t hdtv before with other devices

    It sounds like the unit encrypts the signal to prevent it being played on anything other than the original machine. Very common practice except for Topfield and Beyonwiz units here in Australia. Don't know the situation in NZ. TV standards are different between NA and Australia otherwise you could get a Beyonwiz unit (tuning and sound standards are different). Just checked the ample and MediaInfo doesn't show any information so I'm sure it's encrypted. https://beyonwiz.com.au/products/beyonwiz-t2-1000gb/

    It's called encryption....using proprietary file types that only the television recognizes.

    I have seen a number of reports similar to yours from a few different DVB-T countries. TVs which can record to a USB drive very often encrypt their recordings so that they are only playable by the individual unit which made the recording. This limitation may be noted in the TV's manual. The manuals for these TVs may say that it is possible to transfer recordings to a PC, or another drive for storage, but they don't promise that a PC can play them.
