Hi,

is there someone who could help me with this video on cbc.ca?

I'm in Europe, so I'm probably blocked and therefore can't even get to a point where the video would play. Also can't find a proxy or *free* VPN that would allow me to bypass the blocking. All I get is the attached screenshot.

and I read in this thread that some are able to dl with IDM using a similar link. Still doesn't work here.
I'm really no expert (obviously...), so I'm asking for help here sooner than later, because I don't know how long that video will be up anymore.

How the heck can you watch that in France? I'm in Germany and seem to have no chance.
I've been using your link and tried with several tools to dl, but I'm always getting 403 Forbidden errors. Attached screenshots from using TVDownloader and TubeDigger. I'm an absolute zero with command line tools, so I need a frontend...

Just tried with youtube-dl, without really knowing how to use the command line lol.

I went to the directory where youtube-dl.exe is and pasted the command you posted in. That's pretty much what I have to do, right?
In the end I'm getting the same 403 error that I'm having i.e. with TVDownloader.

I'm afk for now, will try again later on.

You can use Tubedigger ($15) "Chromium 3"setting and ip software for Canada. However, I used youtube-dl and ip software for Canada.

Ok, I finally got it in 1280x720.
But I was already starting to seriously doubt myself lol. Got myself a cheap VPN service, purchased TubeDigger, tried again with youtube-dl... still no success.

Turned out that I was using an outdated version of youtube-dl. From August 2017, so not really "old" but still old enough to give me "unsupported URL" errors. After getting the latest version of yt-dl everything's fine now.

Thanks for this very useful advice jagabo!
Allows me to bypass the blocking without eating up the Data Volume of my crappy cheapy VPN service. Only drawback is that yt-dl loses the connection every once in a while during the download. In this case it's a ~4.5 GB file and the connection breaks down every ~ 5 to 10 % while downloading. But thankfully youtube-dl is clever enough to resume the download from the last point after using the same command. So it only works "step by step", but it works, and that's the important thing.


So, thanks for all the great pieces of advice, guys!
I definitely learned something from this one.

Using Opera's VPN was one of the very first things I've tried. But it doesn't really have an option to choose a canadian IP.

It says:
"optimal location" - which is whatever they like
"Europe" and "Asia" - not working for this purpose
"North- and Southamerica" - when choosing this they give me an US IP most of the time (also Mexico, Argentina, ...), so that doesn't work either.
