  1. Hey Guys,
I'm trying to convert a stack of old VHS tapes to DVD using Diamond VC500 to capture audio/video to Mpeg2
Capturing seems fine, but when trying to encode and author the DVD sometimes it works fine, other times I get errors.
Many of these tapes convert to larger than 4.7gb, so I am using DVDshrink to compress.

Since this is old VHS quality is not a huge issue, but the less loss the better obviously.

Here is the error that I get from AVStoDVD during the authoring process:

Process aborted during DVD AUTHORING operations!

DVD Authoring operation failed, probably caused by excessive bitrate.
Decrease video and/or audio bitrates and then retry the project.

Check following files for more details:

    AVStoDVD log file <C:\Users\owner\Videos\DVD_1.log>
    BatchMux log file <C:\Users\owner\Videos\DVD_1_BatchMux.log>

can you walk me thru the process to reduce the bitrates, if that is indeed the problem?

    Thanks

Is this source directly from your capture process?
At first glance it looks like the source video is DVD compliant. The program passes the video as-is and re-encodes the audio to ac3.
When it gets to the authoring stage, it gets about an hour in and balks at the bitrate.
The average bitrate is OK, but there must have been a peak at that point that it didn't like.
You could force the program to re-encode the video, or recapture at a slightly lower bitrate
    Here's the error:
    -- Starting scene Seg1_Scn14 at 01:04:56:13, requested for 01:04:56:03
    -- P-STD buffer underflow by 73999 bytes at 356418329, sector 2007740.
