  1. Most of the video capture cards such as Hauppage, AverMedia, Pinnacle PCTV use Conexant BT878 chipsets to capture analog video. I was just wondering if there're are any capture cards that use different chipsets. And what are the different chips? I think there exists Phillips chip which I've heard is better than BT878. I also believe Matrox uses its own chip. Are there any list with datasheet available? Thanks in advance.

The ASUS cards (and I guess anyone using the nVidia design) use Philips chips.

I am happy with mine, but I believe there could be a lot more support given by the drivers to really take advantage of what the chip can do (and actually, for the vfw driver I have no idea how they set up the chip at all....you get more control and a better idea of what is going on with the wdm drivers) You can get the data sheets for the chips at the Philips web site:

    http://www.semiconductors.philips.com/catalog/219/282/31111/31571/index.html#31571

But it is a little more difficult to find out which chip is in which board.

I have an ASUS V7700 deluxe and it uses the SAA 7113. I believe some of the newer boards use the SAA 7114.
