  1. If I have two (2) mpeg-1 VCD files, can I put them both on DVD-R as they are (VCD format). Or do I have to re-encode to mpeg-2 and author for DVD-R. I would rather just put the VCD files on the DVD-R since that would be the easiest and quickest way. Is it possible? Will it play on a standalone DVD player that supports VCD?

The DVD standard supports MPEG1 as part of its standard so you will not have to re-encode the video. The audio sampling frequency must be increased to 48Khz.

  3. Thanks Dave, I read the page from your link and it seems simple...but, would it be possible to burn the dvd-r (vcd) using nero, the way i would do a regular vcd, the only difference being the type of media I'd be using (dvd-r instead of cd-r) the version of nero i have supports dvd so I thought it might be possible but i'm no expert.

I only ask because the link you gave suggests a couple of programs, but the only one that works for me, for dvd authoring is ulead dvd, and that is the only one that doesnt support mpeg-1

Authoring and Burning can be completed using two separate programs. The authoring step is best acheived with DVD authoring software such as SpruceUp or DVDit. Once authored, the later versions of Nero will burn the DVD just fine.
