  1. How can I reencode VCDs so I can burn them onto a DVD, and get the 7.5 hours playback time? I want to reencode them, so I can do a BATCH encode. I know, it will take longer this way than it would to follow the guide, where I don't have to reencode, but this way, my computer can do the conversion while I am not at it!
I tried creating a template in TMPGEnc, based on their low resolution NTSC DVD settings, but I changed the CBR from 1800 to 1150. I then added the converted file to SpruceUp, and it looked like everything was going to work. I burned it fine, but when I played it on my SetTop, I got no video, just audio. I know my SetTop can play VCDDVDs, because I have made them, using the demultiplex/convert the audio method.

***Please note, I do know that I don't HAVE to reencode VCDs, I KNOW I can demultiplex, and just convert the audio, using the guide. However, that takes 30 minutes per 20 minute VCD .mpg clip, and I have to do it for each one. PLEASE don't post tellimg me that I don't have to reencode the VCDs.

  2. not Brock (dk, hades etc)?

Well, the reason it only has audio is cuz your using an mpg1 video stream and your dvdplayer (like Many) doesnt support mpg1/DVD, only mpg2 for dvd.
You`ll have to re-encode as mpg2 if you want to compile as Dvd. i know u dont wanna hear that but thats how it it i`m afraid.
You could encode as mpg2 and use CBR (i wouldnt) with a low bitrate to get the most playback time out of it but its really not worth it.

  3. Yes, that Brock! Hiya, Duff.
Aparently, you didn't read my whole post. I said that I already made a VCDDVD, and it DID play on my SetTop. I made it by demultiplexing the video from audio, and then changed the audio to 4800, and 224. There's a guide that tells you how to do it. (one of the "how to"s on the left). At any rate, I know the burner can create VCDDVDs, and I know my SetTop (APEX) can play them. Someone please help!

  4. ok,
i tried that on 3 different players and no luck... either way its not really worth.. If it only has audio then thats what happens when ya player doesnt support it,, but if u say it already worked then i dunno..

I gave up wasting my time on vcd/svcd 2 dvd ages ago...bleh
too busy rippin dvd`s with ifoedit..

  5. I don't understand why you can't just capture mpeg1 as you would with a vcd, then author or burn the dvd as a vcd. In other words, just get the proper folders created and vcd information. Does the stand alone player sense that the medium is incorrect for vcd despite the folders say "this is a vcd?"

  6. Thanks, anyway, Duff.
I must have messed up a setting in my template.

Haymes, you simply can't drag VCD files into the authoring software. It won't work at all.

I think Hayes meant doing something to trick the DVD player into thinking its a giant VCD, ie, burning the proper files for VCD onto a DVD media, but as a "data" disk.

It wouldnt work because all DVD burns (data, audio and video) are burned in the UDF format, and VCDs are burned in the CD-ROM/XA format, and with a different sector size.

  9. Good point, Antny.
I figured out my problem, too! I didn't have all the video settings changed. I went into TMPGEnc, and took a screenshot of each tab under teh CBR 1800 DVD low resolution, and I changed all the settings for my template to what was there, except I used 1150 CBR. And it worked! It plays in my SetTop! However, I need to try putting 5+ hours onto 1 DVD, and see how that goes. The burn looks pretty big, but I think that the lead-in and lead-out tracks are HUGE for a video dvd. (at least 100MB, probably more)!
