  1. I was going to try and rip a dvd, I am new to this and I thought I would give it a go.

But I found that I had only 3.84GB on my PC and I need at least 8GB.

I got rid of a lot of redundant programs etc etc, and I am up to 5.3GB.

Still not there, if I delete my mp3's (but burn them to disc b4 hand) it will free up 1.7GB, but then I wont be able to play the mp3s on my pc

Anmyone know how I could free up some more space, any advice on buying more memory? When I bought my pc 2 yrs ago I though 15GB would be enough

    Thanks. Steven

A good ata133 7200 rpm 60 gig hard drive will set you back about $200Can (about 120$US) But it is worth it. You can save about 10 movies on that if you don't keep the extras...
    I just cheked at compusa they're selling an 80gig ata100 5400 for 99.99$(not the fastest drive, but it is a good price)or 149$ 80gig ata133 7200rpm...

  3. IF you are surfing a lot on your PC try and clear all the tempreory internet files from the M/c Probobly you will get another GB free. Delte Your Contents in the TEMP directory.

I would say Buy a Hard drive. You can get a Good Drive for about 150 $. i bought a 80GB ATA 133 7200 RPM Maxtor Drive for 137 $ including delivery. check www.pricewatch.com. you can geta 5400 RPM ATA 100 60 GB for less that 90 bugs

If you are going to be ripping movies, then I would suggest you buy AT LEAST a 100GB drive to replace your 15. If you are going to do any transcoding, or capturing of video, I would recommend at least twin 80's. At over 4GB per movie, this quickly adds up. I know... I am capping laserdisks at 9.5Mbps, then transcoding down to around 4.5Mbps VBR, then authoring a DVD. To be safe, I always leave a "trail" of former versions (ie, the previous state) - believe me, it really adds up fast.

  5. Can I not just rip a movie, burn it to VCD, and then delete the files
    off my hard drive?

Forgive me if this is not the case, as I am new to this.......

    Regards - Steven

  6. yes you can do this. the Problem is You need at leas say 8 GB for the Ripped movie. and anthoer 2 GB for operating Space so atleast 10GB Space is required to do a DVD rip and VCD.
