    Hi,

Please let me introduce myself for my first post here...
I am a user of WMCapture since several years and appreciate this software very much. I would appreciate help, and would be pleased to give help if I am available.

Here is the question I would like to submit : WM Capture "2 to 1 conversion". What's that ?

As English is not my native language I do not understand the following information, received by a mail from info AT wmrecorder.com
We recently released some great new updates to WM Capture 8.
With the latest version, you can access brand new 2 to 1 conversion capabilities that make capturing super-easy, along with a ton of other fixes and improvements.
The Search here did not help me, nor did Google, so please tell me ...

2 WHAT? can I now convert to 1 WHAT?

    Any idea ?
    Thank you...

    Here's an educated guess...

It's total BS when they say both in one sentence "capture any format" and "drm compliant and legal". If a file/stream has drm, and is flagged no copy, they don't want you copying it so no form of what this app does is legit if it actually makes a copy.
And usually in cases where there is a closed/proprietary/drm'd format, the only way to get a copy is to do a screen recording.
I believe this is what they are referring to when they describe 2-to-1 conversion. It has to be played, and the playback is captured (usually losslessly, step 1) and then converted to the final desired format (step 2). They just make it seem as if it is being done in just one step.

All modern versions of Windows provide some sort of a protected path to prevent users from capturing the decrypted stream or recording the screen when DRM content is being played. All the apps that I've used to play DRM content employ some version of this technology. Since the normal protection provided for DRM content has been intentionally circumvented in order to record the screen, I agree with Cornucopia that this software is certainly not DRM compliant or legal.

    Hello Scott,
As a newbie, I did not even think it could be a matter of DRMs.
So I will install (or not) this new version, as this (BS) new capability actually is not my concern at all.
BTW, I am very flattered to receive help from so prolific a member of this forum
    Thank you.

    Hello usually_quiet,
I guess this not legal aspect may explain why they don't use an easily understandable word to describe this brand new capability.
Same for you as for Cornucopia : much respect for the experts taking care of the newbies questions.
