    Have many video files from various sources and in various formats. looking for a good program to take portions off ends and out of the middle of files. and that will not increase the size of the files.

    For frame-accurate smart editing (only partial GOPs are re-encoded), you will need to look at paid software. VideoReDo TVSuite 5 and Cypheros TSDoctor are good for editing recorded TV. SolveigMM Video Splitter can edit more formats.

    When you remux files to mkv, there is also Mkvcutter, which is free and has good rating.
