youtube Download

I have not dl'ed from youtube for a few years. I tried recently to dl this:

All I want is the audio portion, I would convert it to mp3.

Things have changed at youtube, & I cant figure out how to dl anthing from there.

Used to be, going through the right hand side list, picking the largest file size to dl gave the best audio quality.

Found a site where one installs their software, then go to their page & paste youtube page in their box to dl. I am suspicious of this, is this the new way to do things?

Youtube-dl keeps up-to-date with the changes so you don't have to. If YouTube changes, youtube-dl prompts to update itself.

To avoid having to remember the commandline options, I created a few batch files, for instance:

- Audio only:

youtube-dl.exe --no-mtime --console-title ^
-o "D:\download\%%(title)s (%%(uploader)s) v=%%(id)s.%%(ext)s" ^
-f "bestaudio[ext=m4a]/best" ^
-- %1

Video+audio, mp4 720p:

youtube-dl.exe --no-mtime --console-title ^
-o "D:\download\%%(title)s (%%(uploader)s) -%%(height)s v=%%(id)s.%%(ext)s" ^
-f "best[height<=?720]+bestaudio[ext=m4a]/best[ext=mp4]/best" ^
-- %1

To use, call the batch file with the YouTube ID.

EDIT except in this case, I get garbage audio...
EDIT haha, joke's on me -- the glitch is in the source. It works fine.

I used youtube-dl with the extract audio command:
--extract-audio
So the final code to download is (see screenshot 1):
youtube-dl --extract-audio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6CdxwqNY7c
This downloads the audio in the ogg vorbis format.
If you want to download as regular mp3, use this command (conversion process may take a few minutes):
--extract-audio --audio-format mp3
So the final code to download is:
youtube-dl --extract-audio --audio-format mp3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6CdxwqNY7c
You need to have ffmpeg in the folder with youtube-dl (see screenshot 2).
