I am looking to transfer video and audio from an old 90s camcorder's RCA ports out into my iMac. Any recommendations for what type of cable/adapter/converter I should purchase to make this transfer possible? Am I looking for RCA to USB/Firewire/Thunderbolt?

You need a capture device of some kind for analog tape cameras. The Elgato Video Capture and its software are OS X compatible.

The recordings made by DV cameras should be transferred to the computer, not captured from the camera's analog connections. If your Mac doesn't have a Firewire port, you could use and Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire Adapter and a firewire 400 to 800 adapter. iMovie and FinalCut Pro X are supposed to work for Firewire transfers.
