I have this audio taken right in front of stage with either clipped audio or heavy mic compression ..

so i'm a little lost with the signal chain i should use ..
limiter..soft compression..clip restoration and transient shaping.
I know i can't restore lost info but i know i can make it more pleasing to the hear

i made some test with various VST (i have Vegas Movie Studio 14) I also have REAPER, Audacity and Foobar2000 installed. ReLife came close ..ClipFix was one of the worst

from what i've tested...resampling shouldn't be done before declippind only bit depth conversion

the wave was made with virtualdub and it's WMV input plugin that the only one that kept
    the audio's original specs

my plan is to sync it up with another source audio file to make a real stereo bicam project.

What would you do with this audio file?

I increased the sample rate to 48k and the bit depth to 24. In Izotope RX declip module
about the best you can say for the results is that it gets rid of the crackling sound.

    What are your expectations?

    i was thinking..freeware and RX is what? 400$? 1000$?

lots of mastering plugins hanging around the net ..

i'm reading a lot about loudness wars and stuff writen about 5 to 8-9 years ago about reducing volume and giving dynamics

i have two audios to sync for a 2 cam mix ...that would be droped to youtube ...YT expects 41K i think

I have an older version rx3. I'll post what I got later this afternoon.

Ok, here's the output resampled to 44.1k. It's cleaner but it still sounds like crap.

    You upsampled it before filtering?

some guy applied a crossover just to do multiband filtering ,
so something maybe doable in freeware with another choice of filters

    https://fr.reddit.com/r/LoudnessWar/comments/5i67ux/transient_restoration_dynamic_rang..._expansion_on/

Rx in trialware has limited saving (i think) ..may be captured from desktop..i don't know..

on other forums some say we should do multiple passes with light settings ...

Perfect Declipper works inside Foobar2000 , i would have to edit the -bip- out ..that could be done with audacity

I just have to play around with the settings ...
and i don't know if i have to prepare the file (sampling, bit depth etc) before filtering?

at the end of the day this audio will be mix with another capture from another source ..

i did a rough mix a few months ago https://soundcloud.com/steve-martel-1/3-1-a1a1a1-fnm_jam/s-39s3X
i was trying out Landr .. it can be better than that ..
