  1. I've tried using the multi-region hack for the Samsung DVD-511 a few times and each time I've tried it I keep getting the same result, when I'm supposed to press repeat and enter the code for my player I don't get the "Region Code" menu like I'm supposed to, I've tried this several times, each time doing a cold start, can someone help me figure out why the code doesn't work. is it defunct? Or am I doing something wrong. I'm using this method:

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayershack.php?select=Samsung%20DVD%20511

is something supposed to happen when I press repeat? because when I'm entering the code the numbers appear in the corner, and afterwards nothing happens. thanks for your help.

  2. I'm not totally sure about this, but are you sure you're pressing the 'repeat' key and not the 'repeat a-b ' key? I seem to remeber an issue with that happening.
If I'm talking out of my arse, re-post your question on www.709online.com , cos they know what they're talking about when it comes to Samsung DVD players...

  4. Well I went to the URL you supplied and found another site and I don't think my player is hackable without doing a bios revision on it. unfortunately I'llhave to probably find another player (it doesn't matter since I was trying this on my dad's player anyway. My original player is one of those First Generation Philips Maganavox player that can't be hacked unless I have a PalmV unfortunately that's not an option for me either. Anywho thanks and if anyone knows how to hack a Philips Without the PalmV or modchipping LMK. later

  5. What do you have to do with the Palm? If it's simply sending an IR code (like the Philips models), you could buy a One For All 6 (a lot cheaper) and program the function on.

Yeah, I know but I can't seem to find an all in one 6 with a magic button. or is that just a nick name for a code or something? plus on my player for some reason certain dvd's won't work. Normally it wouldn't bother me because I have a DXR2 decoder board using remote selector and just output that to my tv, but as of late the card has been locking up and windows isn't allowing me to change the memory access range for the card (which is what I need to do to fix it.)

  7. Are you in the US? If so, the OFAs there don't have Magic buttons, they're called Set or Setup, but they do the same thing. If you can find an OFA remote that operates DVD, you'll be fine. Juts follow the instructions on the site and it'll be hacked.
However if you are in the US, you may not be able to watch PAL DVDs (ie Region 2) as your TV is more than likely NTSC-only compatible. Multi-standard TVs are quite common in Europe now, but less so in the US.

(that last bit was just in case, I don't want you wasting $30 and blamimg me

  8. Ah thanks that clears a lot up for me, (I'll give it a shot right now cause saw those and thought maybe that was the supposed "Magic" button since it was in the shape of a star. As for region 2 those are NTSC (at least last I checked allmy region 2 dvd's said NTSC on the back of their cases)

  10. Hi again,
Well if you have Japanese Region 2 DVDs, I think those will be in NTSC. If you get them from Europe however, they'll be PAL.
Re the remote, does it have codes for any DVD Players at all? If so it should have code (0)573 listed, and that's the code for your Samsung. If not, does it operate Tuners? If so enter the code for an Aiwa Tuner, which should be (0)121. Then try pressing Magic (or whatever) once and releasing it, and then pressing 0-8-5 while pointing towards the DVD.

Good luck and let me know how you get on!

Yeah my dvd's are Japanese Region 2. As for the other part, I gave my dad the samsung and took my old philips magnavox back, but I'm thinking that it's so old that the hack won't work on it with the oneforall remote, because the code 0539 which is for phillips dvd players doesn't work, I had to use the old "Remote Search" method where I hit power till it shuts it off. when i hit the magic button and press 0-8-5 nothing happens, it says there should be dashes on the front panel of the dvd player, but for as long as I've had the player it's always had -- --- --:--:-- on the front panel and it only changes when I load a DVD into it. the model is a philips magnavox DVD400AT, it was manufactured in July of 1997, so it's an ancient player, and I found out on one of the Samsung websites that the Firmware for the Samsung DV511 US version cannot be hacked with the remote without installing an upgraded firmware chip in the system. What I was planning on doing is in 2 weeks I'll have enough money to get myself a new dvd player, so I was going to go to some of the stores and look up the brand/model numbers come back to this site and see which ones are hackable. with either thier remotes or something else that I already have. I'm sure I can find a decent player for less than $200 at Best Buy, Cricuit City, etc.
