    Hi,

I want to cut a 1.61 GB MKV file with Avidemux but I get the message "if the file is using B-frame as reference it can lead to a crash or stuttering, Avidemux can use another mode which is safe but you will lose frame accuracy, do you want to use that mode"? I don't what I should do and hope to get some help on this forum.

Thanks and have a nice Thanksgiving!

    Hi,
if you just want cut gop 1st part (1st frame, last frame (somewhere in half (one frame before Keyframe that start second part))) 2nd part start (Keyframe (it is (I) frame type in avidemux), last frame of the video)
And Video set to copy, audio set to copy output format probably also MKV, I don't see any problem. Type of frame (I) is on 90% keyframe. It is fully described picture independent on any previous or future frame.
And if you want cut on p or b frame (start of selection) you have to re-compress whole video. But it should be also o.k. when re-encode whole video.
So find Keyframe where you want split your video go one frame back and click on B mark below timeline for selection (to be sure click it twice) When done click delete, it will delete first part and if you follow this, your second part should start at I frame, so no need do selection, just save it copy video copy audio and output format.
Or there is also easy way to split in Mkvtoolnix. It is not frame accurate, but probably better. In output, split mode choose what is suitable for you. And you get 2 or more files depending on your split file option.

    Hi Bernix,

Thanks for all your information. I'm not familiar at all with editing videos only with converting but I will review your explanation after Thanksgiving and follow your directions.

Thanks again and have a great day.
