I've started off easy by downloading TS or CAM and then convert them to vcd no problems doing that. Now I'm going to try to do my first real challenge I downloaded spy game(dvdrip)avi and the size of the files are in the 700mb range(each) already. so once i convert them using Tmpeg they will get get larger right? So what do I have to do to get these two files on two discs? I'm confused could someone point me in the right direction . I have looked on the site before posting this but I'm lost. Thanks in advance :o

file size depends on format(vcd svcd mpeg mpeg2) more than anything else i know for a fact that spygames fits on 2 cds in vcd format...
when you convert to mpeg you are not necessarily going to have a bigger file. If your thinking of going to an svcd maybe you should consider a bit rate calculator(i think therer's a couple of those in the tools section of the site)
Hope that helps -
Ok, I thought it would get bigger. . when I converted the TS movies they went from say around 191avi to 500-600mpg.So how do I do what your saying- how do i stop it from getting bigger? Thanks in advance Ed P.S. I want to make a vcd 2 discs not svcd.

then if you are making vcd don't worry it's just the amount of time that matters(ie. you can put about 74 mins of movie on a vcd per disk)

Alright I understand the time thing, but are you saying that the file size will not get any larger when converting to mpg usinsg TMPGenc? Are there any special setting in TMPGrnc that I have to change? When I've converted the TS or CAM movies all I did was use the default setting in TMPGenc(whatever they are). Could you please explain it to me carefully I'm still new to this. Thanks in advance Ed

if your using the vcd template... there's nothing to change.
The reason vcd is always the same size is that the bitrate is constant(ie is always the same no matter what).so if you take 1 minute of vcd mpg the file size will be the same no matter what the footage. -
Well Am I doing something wrong with the files I have converted in the past, Like I said before they go from around 190 to 500mb
-
Ok i must not be explaining this well. The size of the original file(footage) does not matter. If you have a 70 minutes video it wont matter when you are making a vcd what the size of the footage was. i could be 10gig or 5 meg, it will still end up the same size (about 650meg or so...).

Resnullius, Thanks for your Help, and please don't get frustrated, I understand what you are saying, but I have a slow computer and the movies I've done before had takesn 6 hrs each disc and they got bigger. I just don't want to go through this process and end up with a file that is twice as large as it started or have it take twice as long to convert. I really APPRECIATE your HELP. I will go ahead and try it. Thanks Again ED
