  1. I have a file called loader.exe (used to make software work) that Virus Total shows half of their virus scanners detect a virus. That also means half did not detect a virus. (see screenshot). I'm wondering if the half that detect a virus, show false positives simply because of what the file is used for. That would be a value judgement, not based on fact.

such files are usually used for software piracy, so this smells fishy to me

if said "programme" is a crack or keygen then yes it will be detected by anti virus because of the nature of the programme ""it hacks or changes system registry" most are virus free but most ain't try run it in a sand box or do a system restore point before running it

upload the file and i'll test it for you

  5. Jim, I would be exceptionally surprised if you had in your possession a file that did NOT have a virus in it.

After a little search, a file of that name is used with Hide ALL IP to grant extra days of free usage when it's short trial period would normally end

Do you really think there is only one file named loader.exe in the whole cyberverse?

    Is that a trick question?

If jimdagys file is from a genuine software vendor, why doesn't he ask them about loader.exe?
Why upload it to Virus Total...?

From what I've read, lots of cracked software uses a file called loader.exe. It just arouses suspicion from such a vague first post.

You seem to have correctly identified the file,

Original filename of identical file uploaded to Virustotal:- _4Realtorrentz.com__Hide_ALL_IP_LifeTime_Crack.zip

Here the VirusTotal page from OP:- https://www.virustotal.com/#/file/feb915a7ea9de6a1a411cbb19abfa1960b03ab027b282f83e989...c885/detection

EDIT: See the 'Relations' tab on VirusTotal for other alternate names for the file container (ZIP or RAR).
