    Hello,

I like to watch my BDs with French subs that I create with Subtitle Workshop, sometimes with Subtitle Edit, and tsmuxer (to make either an iso file, either an AVCHD file)
This works very good. I prefer to use tsmuxer because of the great quality of the subs, and I don't want to hardcore them.

But sometimes, I would like to place a sub in the middle (or elsewhere) of the image.
For example, take a look at a still from the excellent movie "No smoking" by Anurag Kashyap:

I tried to use Subtitle Edit to add {\an9} to my sub, and this is the result:

Not good enough to get my sub into the balloon.

Is there a way to edit just one subtitle among the other ones?

  2. Use .ass subtitles

Convert to PGS with EasySUP (good quality as well)

    Mux with tsMuxeR

    Hello videobruger,

thanks for your message, it seems to be exactly what I need
And I like to work with aegisub for ass subs.

I'll try easysup during the following days, make some tries, then come back to comment what I did.

Have a nice day, despite the sad New-York news.

I see how to add my subs, but then? Do I need a video file? If so, what kind? And then, in easysub, what format do I choose? (BDSUP, BDNXML, SUP+XML, or DVD SUB)

It's not so easy to choose, because I want to convert my DVD into a BD. A little help would be appreciated.
This soft seems really good, I'll try to understand it little by little, just by trying.
And I'll come back to tell.

  5. Test with say 5 subtitles.

Drag the .ass file onto EasySUP. You don't need a video.

Select BD SUP as output and the resolution (720/1080).

Click on one of the subtitles in the bottom of the screen and it'll appear in the blue window.

Note the box "Appearance" is for .srt subtitles. For .ass the Style (or ass tag) is used as shown below where Arial Narrow is the font in the Style while Symbol is selected in the Appearance.

And then press the Start button.

    Hello again,

thanks for your explications, your image, and the link to the Doom9-Forum. I have read all the pages, I don't find my problem:
After a dozen tries, I always get this : Error processing subtitles !

Then I look in the Easysup folder to find the result named "Subpreview", and the file is just a srt file, with no effects at all, even so, during the processing, appear many PNG files, that disappear at the end of the processing.
I'm a bit disappointed, because I really believe it was possible.

I join my .ass file, to see if you can understand what was wrong.

And the extract of the movie is online here: https://youtu.be/L4muO9VkCqg

    http://<a class="contentlink" href="https://youtu.be/L4muO9VkCqg" target="_blank" rel=...4muO9VkCqg</a>
I think finally that I'll hardcore my subs, just for this movie, because there are a lot of effects I want to keep.

I forgot to attach my file, sorry.
It's an .ass file for the extract of the movie

Never seen this. The only thing I can think of is if you miss AviSynth or Java. From the Doom9:

    Requirements:
    AviSynth and Java.

Anyway I attach the resulting .sup file

    Hi again, videobruger

very nice of you to have converted my .ass file into a .PGS one.
I used it with tsmuxer, and yes! it worked as you said.
Although the subs are desynchronized, it is not a hard problem, I guess the FPS was not at 29.97.

You proved that the subs can be placed anywhere we want, with great quality, and that was what I asked.

Now of course I must have a problem with java or avisynth, but it's not the point here. I'll resolve this by searching on the web.

    So, thanks again.

    Hello again,

it was a java problem indeed. I downloaded the last version, and now easysup works, so so. Not all the effects are reproduced, but it works, and that's brilliant!

And I found something very stange, and so easy, anyhow: having created effects with aegisub, I saved my subtitles in .ass format, and read the movie with them, using VLC: it works perfectly.
So I don't even have to use easysup. As long as I read the movie on my PC.
But now: how to read all this on my TV (in the living-room, 10 meters away from my PC in my office)?
