It's a strange hobby to record videos on tapes nowadays. I wondered can I record Hi8 quality on standard video8 tapes. Thanks!

While there is a way to cheat, the results are unpredictable and usually not worth it. So, NO.

    The tape housing is modified.
The tape magnetic formulation is diiferent: supports the higher bandwidth necessary to retain the increased resolution.

are you sure? i seem to recall 8 and hi8 used the same tape and only d8 was slightly different but in a pinch you could still use regular 8mm tape.

V8 = MP, Hi8 = ME (higher coercivity, denser, higher bandwidth).

Hi8 cassettes were sold in both MP and ME formulations.
