  1. Hello,

    i would like to make a list with the most common various encoding settings.

    Here is what i wrote so far.

    Do you disagree with this list ? Do you suggest something else ?

    I am using ffmpeg for the encoding.

    Most common Video Bitrates : 1.5k, 2k, 2.5k, 3k, 4k, 5k, 6k, 8k

    Most common Frame Rate settings : 12.0 fps, 14.985 fps, 15.0 fps, 23.975 fps, 24.0 fps, 25.0 fps, 29.97 fps, 25.0 fps, 29.97 fps, 30.0 fps, 50.0 fps, 60.0 fps

    Most common Video Sizes :320x240, 640x480, 720x480, 720x576, 960x640, 1024x768, 1280x720, 1920x1080

    Most common Audio Bitrates : 32k, 64k, 96k, 128k, 160k, 192k, 256k, 320k

    Most common Audio Sample Rates : 22050 Hz, 32000 Hz, 44100 Hz, 48000 Hz

    Most common Aspect Ratios : 4:3, 16:9, 21:9, 18:9, 9:16

    Most common Audio Channels : 2,1,Mute

  2. Video bitrates should be in Mbps or 1000kbps (your values are very low - lower than ancient telephone modem capabilities).
    There are 3 different framerates groups - cinema (24fps), PAL like (25fps + half + twice) and NTSC like (24000/1001, 30000/1001, 30 + half + twice).
    Video sizes i would recommend to use ATSC, DVD and DVB recommended video sizes + accommodate few typical mobile devices resolutions.
    32k for audio sound very low, sample rates lower than 32000Hz are very rare (bellow HiFi), common channels for audio 5.1, 2.0, 1.0 .

    I assume you trying to create various predefined presets - you should search for already existing one - usually they trying to squeeze maximum from target device.

    I doubt how useful the list will be. Because for 320x240 at 23.976 resolution in h265 is several kbps enough (if k means kbps) but for 1920x1080 at 60 fps can be 8000 kbps insufficient.
    You can add to list 3840×2160 known as 4k and 7680×4320 aka 8k. Lower resolution has plenty of common resolution. 512x384, 512x288, 720x576, 704x576 and so on.
    At audio Iam missing 48kbps for HEv2-AAC, or 640 kbps, 448 kbps typical for 5.1 AC-3 audio.
    Honestly the list is endless.

    I don't see how it's useful either really. For example I almost always use CRF/quantization based encoding so the bit rate is a bit arbitrary.

    The best advice about output resolution I've seen is that if you want to compress the file it's best to downsample to something. I read somewhere that 1080p AVC that's less than about 8M/sec doesn't reallyt look like 1080p because too much detail is lost. It just ends up looking like sharpened or upsampled DVD res so you may as well downsample it, and it'll look more consistent. And make the dimensions mod 16. In Avidemux eg. that's called round up. It makes encodiing and decoding work much better.
