Hi,
I am a newbie to capturing and have read this board for a while...
I have Sony Dcr-Trv130 Camcorder (Digital 8) and I'm using firewire card (Pc Card or PCI) to 'capture' my video. I have a little problem with drop frames, but main problem is that i can't capture full resolution (720x576).
I tried to capture to DV-PAL AVI (720X576) format with Adobe,Ulead,DVIO,EditStudio and some other NLE software, but result was always the same! ->just 360x288 resolution!
Does anybody know how I can fix my problem?
Thanks, Kinza20000

hmmm cool, I have a very similar camera and do the same thing. I use Ulead 'something' which came with the Firewire package itself...
Ummm, have you changed the config setting inside Ulead to 720X576?
If so, are you sure the captured video is actually only 360X288? I know when I play back the captured 720x576 .avi file in Windows Media Player it only shows small on the screen (incidentally set at resolution 800x600) but it is a 720x576 vid. WMP sucks I think.
The properties of a file in Ulead will tell you it's true resolution... otherwise there must be a small app out there that will tell you this for an .avi file.
Cheers, let us know.

With DV, you cannot change capture resolution (size). The camera has already converted the information to a format and the firewire just transfers the file to the computer.
What you are probably seeing is a result of Type 1 and Type 2 DV files. The "type" of file is determined by the capture program (Ulead, Adobe, etc). Adobe expects a Type 2 file and given a Type 1 will indicate 1/2 size frames. Try this, do a capture in Premiere and then look at the stats on the file. You should see the proper frame size.
By the way, type has to do with how the audio is encoded and not the actual frame size of the video. -
Hi,
I would like to thank you both. It's true that WMP or VirtualDub shows 360x288 resolution, but when I check it with Ulead Studio it shows maxmimum resolution (720x576).
Now I must find the best way to convert DV format to Divx or VCD format. Do you have some good advice?

Hey,
ummm try the links on the left, specifically the "CONVERT" link in green... http://www.vcdhelp.com/convert.htm
The best proggie I have used is TMPGEnc... it's available through the links on the left also.
Install this app, open up your source DV file and then go to File > Preview. This will show you the source info I believe.
Cheers
