Hello. I requested security video footage from the folks that service our building, and I received a .exe file which is a software player that has a very rudimentary interface (horrible) that plays the footage that I needed. They cannot, or will not provide it any other way. The .exe file is almost 2GB, and all the footage is there - the problem is I can only view it in this terrible self-contained RemoteAppEXE and I can't open it or view it any other way. I can't export any type of video file, the only thing I can do is clumsily take a screen shot of any moment in the video.
Obviously the video footage is contained in this player, is there any way that anyone knows of to get the video out? The info on the player looks like a hastily created older program provided by the Korean equipment manufacturer:
Player for DVR Backup Data
RemoteAppEXE
BackupPlayer
2006
1.4.2.2
Any help would be appreciated.

You can try opening the exe with 7zip and extracting the video
But often security footage is encrypted, so low chance of working -
Thanks. I did try that, no luck. I have been searching other related terms (did a decent search for this first) and I see replies to similar threads with same issue. I appreciate the reply! Making me crazy.

If you find the model/make/ serial# of the equipment that was used to record, sometimes the manufacturer website has other utilities you can use. Unfortuntately sometimes you need client login/id. It's a "longshot" but worth investigating

a labor-intense but not impossible approach would be to parse the file looking for known headers of video formats (every file format has a defined layout) using a hex editor or some self-programmed solution, and thereby trying to extract the video part of the exe-file. but when encrypted, that is probably hopeless too.
for example mp4: http://www.file-recovery.com/mp4-signature-format.htm
