  1. I have a number of mts files taken with a Sony HDD camcorder. I have a number of other HD video files taken with a compact camera. I can put this mix in a video editor and output in a variety of formats (not MTS).

I would like to convert one of said formats to MTS so that I can load the MTS back into the camcorder to play on a TV. Can anyone suggest how I might achieve this cheap and cheerful HD player. It appears to be a 3 stage process -

1/ Convert mix to the most appropriate video format for conversion to MTS.
2/ Convert said file to mts (convertors ??)
3/ Getting it to play from the camera, I don't think that is just a simple file copy to the HDD.

I doubt it will be simple... the M2TS container will be only one of the many constraints you will have to respect to produce a file your camcorder would accept, constraints for the video content will be a lot more important (assuming that the recorded clips will be somewhat AVCHD compliant). And after all, your camcorder will probably have an internal schedule to register its recordings, which you may hardly be able to edit without knowing internal details.

Brief: You may need a different player than your camera to play arbitrary new files. Many current HD TV sets can play some file formats from attached USB devices on their own. For all other uses, a "media harddisk" (like WDTV) may be recommendable.
