I have an SRT file which is in sync with a 25 fps AVI file of a movie.
Recently I got the movie in NTSC DVD9. The DVD does not have subtitles in my language.
I 'remuxed' the DVD9 (only the movie, of course) to an MKV file with MakeMKV.
MediaInfo shows that the MKV file has a framerate of 29.97 fps.
I tried to sync the SRT from 25 to 29.97 fps with SubtitleEdit (Synchronization > Change frame rate...) but the result is terrible. I also tried with Subtitle Workshop; no luck either.
The AVI file and the DVD9 have the same version of the movie (no director's cut, extended version, etc.)
Is there a way that I could sync the 25 fps SRT to the 29.97 fps MKV?

You can also try subtitle framerate change (subframerate) to change their speed.

When 24 fps films are made into NTSC video they are not sped up to 29.97 fps. They are slowed to 23.976 fps and have fields duplicated to make 59.94 fields per second (29.97 frames per second when fields are combined into frames). The net effect of this is slowing of the frame rate to 23.976. When films are made into PAL video they are often sped up to 25 fps. So the correct adjustment you want to make is most likely 25 fps to 23.976 fps. Note that releases of films in different regions and different countries almost always have different studio and distributor logos at the start. So there is usually an offset that you must account for. In addition to that they are often not the same cut of the movie. So you need to account for any cut and/or added shots.

Thanks to all for your very helpful advice. Indeed, syncing from 25 to 23.976 fps works flawlessly. I appreciate.
