  1. Hello, dear all.

Do you know other programs like HJ-Split, for 32 / 64 bits - Windows ( including Windows 10 or later)?

Programs that can split & join files. Portable / freeware if its possible.

And programs that can handle very large files, like up 500 GB or something.

    Thanks for your tips.

    Best regards.

Not often used much any more (that I've seen anyway).

More common is to create an RAR/ZIP file and have the output split into your desired size (ie: a 1gb file split into 2 500MB chunks).

    Hi.

But, Winrar or similar ones can handle very large files, up 500 Gb?

I mean, they can split & join large files?

I found other program too: GSplit

    Thanks for your help.

    From the WinRAR FAQ (http://www.win-rar.com/faq.html?&L=0#c1427

"What is the maximum file and archive size limitation?

The size of a RAR or ZIP archive, as well as the size of any single file within a RAR archive, is limited to 8,589,934,591 GB (9,223,372,036,854,775,807 bytes).

Note that to create archives larger than 4 GB, you need to use NTFS, as older file systems do not support such large files."

The catch with any file splitting program is that if one or more parts are corrupt or missing, you'll probably be unable to recover the corrupted / missing data. There are RAR recovery programs, but with very large files the likelihood of complete recovery is nil.

A better approach may be QuickPAR (typically used for Usenet posts) which allows multiple recovery files (PAR2) that can repair corrupt or missing parts. It seems the single file size is ~32GB

There was a fairly recent thread where the poster (I thought was the OP, but apparently not) asked about splitting very large files (to fit unto multiple smaller HDDs) and the general consensus was that it wasn't a good idea due to potential lost data.

In my case, I want to split large files to fit them into dvd / blu-ray media files. Do I have some risk to lose data during this process?

Pretty amount of size, for sure! Do you know if HJ-Split / GSplit or similar programs can deal with such amount of size files too? Or other programs that can do it also? Does exist other programs that can support / deal even with higher amount of data splitting / joining?

QuickPAR can deal with very large files too? The last version is from 2004. Do we have other similar programs that can do it the same and have an updated engine?

You need to start testing what you've been provided and decide what works or doesn't work (and why) for your situation. There isn't a "best" way to do this. All of the options noted in this topic all perform the same function. ie: split a large file into smaller files
